The Embroiderers’ Guild

The Guild provides a community facility for embroidery workshops and exhibitions, a research library and collection archive.

Working with an existing two storey brick commercial building, the project adds a third storey with street front roof terrace, dedicated internal circulation, and converts the existing building into a fully accessible facility. The new circulation and gallery space acts as a light well providing natural light and ventilation throughout the building. The addition of a courtyard to the rear of the site allows for improved solar access and ventilation and a landscaped green space that is viewed through the building from the street. The ceramic tile facade is setout using a traditional embroidery pattern.
